What are silver sox?
Silver sox are highly finished textile socks for everyday wear just like ordinary socks. The difference is X-static®, a 99.9% pure silver yarn which is permanently and irreversibly bonded into the fibre of the sock. It will not wash off, wear off or diminish in effectiveness over time and will last the lifetime of the sock. X-static® is a patented technology [P-tec] which helps to protect the health of your feet.
How do they work?
Silver ions, which are superb antimicrobials, are passed from the silver fibres to infiltrate odour emitting bacteria cells and bond with their DNA chains. This process literally shuts down the bacteria cells' reproductive system and their ability to reproduce. The silver in silver sox has therapeutic value for all of the following conditions:
Foot Odour
Foot odour occurs when bacteria break down organic substances found on the skin surface which results in undesirable odours from the feet. The silver in X-static® socks eliminates 99.9% of the bacteria, thereby killing foot odour.
Perspiration
Perspiration is the body's natural cooling system. Sweat glands produce fluid which move to the surface of the skin and evaporate. The Speedry hydrophobic yarn wicks away the moisture from the surface skin. This creates a drier foot climate resulting in less likelihood of blisters, chafing and other foot problems.
Athletes foot
Athletes foot, (Tinea Pedis), is a skin condition caused by a fungus that typically occurs between the toes although it can affect other parts of the foot and body. This fungus thrives in dark moist and warm environments. Despite the name, the complaint is not confined to athletes, and can affect other parts of the foot and in some cases other parts of the body. Feet that perspire heavily and are encased in footwear with poor ventilation, especially waterproof walking boots, golf shoes, industrial boots etc are more vulnerable to this infection. Silver sox effectively control perspiration and foot odour keeping the feet cool and dry.
Diabetes
One of the effects of diabetes is the slow healing of wounds, abrasions and other skin related damage. The feet are a particular source of slow healing as they are the lowest part of the body for blood circulation. Other materials used in our socks
As well as the award winning X-static®, other fibres used in our socks include Cotton, the world's favourite natural yarn, Speedry and Spandex.
Speedry is a patented hydrophobic yarn developed by Colotex Industrial Co Ltd, a Taiwanese based textile manufacturer. It is wickable, dries quickly and is non-stick. When the body sweats Speedry fibre transports the moisture out allowing the air to move through the fabric producing a cooling and drying effect. The development of speedry has resulted in a yarn with a two layer denier gradient system that wicks away moisture to keep the feet dry. The yarn has a beautiful soft hand feel which enhances the superb comfort of the socks.
Spandex has a high latex content resulting in a superb stretch fit to cover the contours of the foot providing maximum comfort. This benefit eliminates the need for individual shoe size socks.
Easy care
Our socks are very durable. Washing is easy and no special treatment is needed. Just wash on a warm wash with normal washing powder and either dry in the tumble dryer on a warm setting, or allow them to air dry.
